March 15, 2006, brought a life changing event that could only be fully understood some months, and even a couple years, later. Although I knew I was getting older and out of shape, what I didn’t know until I ended up in the emergency room that night unable to breathe, was that I have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and in my case that means emphysema.
